Tips on how to take a good photo:
Keep in mind the most fundamental element in photography is COMPOSITION.
Stay horizontal with lines of buildings and roads, etc. Unless you are trying to be exotic or dynamic (looking up).
Control those backgrounds! Don't let them ruin your images. Trees coming out of a person's head, a car rushing by when you wanted a clear shot. Contain those evil things.
Always remember the RULE OF THIRDS! Imagine that there are invisible lines - two horizontal and two vertical - dividing your picture into nine sections. In many cases, you'll obtain a better picture if you put any natural horizontal lines - like the horizon - on one of your invisible horizontal lines rather than in the middle and if you locate your subject - such as a person or tree - on one of the invisible vertical lines rather than in the middle.
If you're photographing a person, take a full body shot or a head and shoulders shot. In between shots (for instance, from the knees upwards) don't work.
Frame a shot if possible. Doorway, archway, a tree as a left/right/top/bottom border, etc.
Interesting objects and colors can really make a shot.
Use natural light whenever possible indoors or else if it is too dark you might have flash problems and red eye.
Always make sure the sun is behind you unless you are looking for a glare. If you want to take a photo during the day of a particular object but the sun is right above it, just come back at a different time.
In relation, early morning or early evening shots are divine!
Above all, experiment! And have fun doing it!
